ISTH recommends ‘DOAC’ as term

In an article in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Dr. Barnes and his colleagues on the ISTH Subcommittee on the Control of Anticoagulation recommend Direct Oral Anticoagulant (DOAC) as the perferred term for the drug category that contains apixaban. NOAC can be interpreted as ‘no anticoagulation’, one of the reasons why this term isn’t perferred.
